Portuguese built truck with VM TD engine and H55 5 speed transmission. Body shells painted white were sent to Portugal where they were repainted in various colors. The paint on these trucks does not hold up nearly as well as Toyota painted trucks, faded and worn through paint is the norm. Locally manufactured “soft parts” such as seats, carpet, interior panels, headliner, window glass, mirrors, seat belts, etc were installed.
A 4 or 5 cylinder VM turbo diesel engine was installed with a Toyota H55 5 speed. The VM engine produced about 100 horsepower. These trucks were fitted with 4.556 gears. Rear axles were full floaters and LSD equipped. Electrical systems were 12 volt with two batteries wired in parallel to assist with starting. Unfortunately, these engines did not hold up well and many experience failure in the 200,000 KMS range.
Additionally, These trucks were fitted with front and rear doors with removable door tops. This allows the FRP top to be removed and run as a true convertible. There are also securing block/clamps on the hood that allow the windshield to be lowered and secured.
This particular truck is in excellent condition. The body has a small dent in the right front fender and left rear corner. Paint is faded. Interior is in very good condition. This is a perfect truck for somebody looking to do a 1HD-T or other 12 volt diesel conversion.
Asking $9,500. Please call Chris with questions or for more information 336.505.7005.
1980 Toyota Land Cruiser Diesel BJ40 Restoration
1980 left hand drive BJ40 diesel Toyota Land Cruiser recently imported from Spain. The previous owner was nearing the completion of an extensive restoration when he needed to focus his attention on other projects. The condition of the restoration was done to a high standard.
This BJ40 features the 4 cylinder 3.0 liter B engine and 4 speed transmission. The truck starts, idles and drives very well. At some point the previous owner had the truck resprayed in the original color. The frame and body are in great shape and completely rust free, however there is a small area under the driver side floorboard that appears to have been repaired with fiberglass. We would prefer to see a repair like this done in metal. The repair is totally functional and looks good (see photos) but could be repaired to a higher standard. You can see from the photos that the truck is missing a headliner and the seats need to be reupholstered. This rig was never fitted with a heater or air conditioner. The tires are mounted on split rims and although appear to have tread will need to be replaced.
This vehicle has been legally imported and has all US Customs, EPA and DOT paperwork. It has a New Jersey title and registration. Asking $17,000.

1987 left hand drive diesel Toyota Land Cruiser BJ73 recently imported from Spain and currently located in NYC.
BJ73 features the 3.4 liter 4 cylinder 3BII motor with approximately 170,000 miles. The truck starts, idles and pulls strong. The 5 speed transmission shifts smoothly and the truck drives well. The truck has a full floating front axle and semi floating rear axle with factory limited slip differential. An added plus is that the truck was fitted with factory AC.
This rig has a removable RFP top, rear half doors and folding windshield. The previous owner had the truck resprayed white and painted the fenders black and the RFP top a light brown. Upon inspecting the truck there does not appear to be excessive use of body filler or similar bodywork repair. The body and frame are rust free. The seats have been reupholstered to a high standard.
The truck does not appear to have been wheeled, however seems to have been used as a work truck and shows appropriate signs of wear. The interior dash trim components and door panels are broken or worn.
Please keep in mind that this truck is not a restored rig and it would need the appropriate care and attention as any truck of this year.

1985 Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser BJ73
This is a one owner truck with 160,000kms (99,419 miles) left hand drive, power steering, power locks.
This truck has been repainted to a very high standard in the original blue-grey color. A small section of rust was removed from the rocker panel and new metal was welded in. This was not a fiberglass/Bondo repair. prior to repainting, the trucks was fitted with factory rear doors with removable door tops. This allows you to remove the FRP top and run as a “true convertible”. Most bj73 have one piece rear doors that require you to remove doors completely or purchase a second set and cut the doorstops off.
Interior is in good shape with some nicks and tears. Steering is tight, transmission shifts smoothly, truck tracks straight and is very tight (all consistent with a lower KM truck).
Now for the bad news… After purchasing and painting the truck we discovered that the engine was seriously worn (bad rings/worn bore). Truck runs and drives very well but loss of compression results in a significant loss of power. The seller did not disclose this issue when he sold us the truck. He also would not take our call to discuss the problem with the engine. We believe that the engine wear was caused by a lack of regular engine oil/air filter changes.
This would be a perfect truck for someone looking to do a 13B-T or 1HD-T conversion or for someone who has a spare 3B motor.

About The Truck: We’re especially proud of this 1988 BJ75 Troopy because it was found in a school teacher’s garage in a remote village in the Canary Islands. Once we had secured the truck it took almost 9 months before we’d be able to get it in our garage! There have been a lot of complicated logistics involved in importing, however it’s our first troopy and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
Body: This is a clean, however well used vintage diesel Land Cruiser. The truck is completely stock without any modifications. Frame, wheel wells and underbody are clean and rust free. This Troopy has had some previous body and paintwork. You will also see in the photos that the rig has some wear, small tears in the seats and headliner. Front seats have been recovered to a high standard.
Engine: This BJ75 features a 4 cylinder 3BII diesel motor with rotary injection pump and H55 5 speed manual transmission. The engine starts right up and idles smoothly. It does not blow any smoke on cold start or when accelerating. The engine currently has 368,000 miles and is running strong. Full-floating, limited-slip equipped rear axle.
Imported from Europe with all US Customs, DOT and EPA clearance/paperwork. Please call Chris with any questions 336.505.7005 or email email@example.com.
